North Carolina murder suspects caught in Seattle

King County Sheriff's deputies arrested a North Carolina couple on suspicion of homicide early today in an apartment west of the Renton Municipal Airport.

King County Sheriff's deputies arrested a North Carolina couple on suspicion of homicide early today in an apartment west of the Renton Municipal Airport.

Scottland Belk, 38, and his wife Rhonda, 37, had been on the run since late October, when Belk's mother was found slain inside her home in Charlotte, N.C., said sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart. Before their arrest, the couple was last seen in Gainesville, Texas, where they claimed to be victims of Hurricane Katrina; a local church gave them free bus tickets to Seattle, he said.

Just after midnight, deputies arrived at an apartment near South 115th Street and Rainier Avenue South; Belk answered the door and later admitted his true identity, Urquhart said.

Belk, who calls himself a "reverend" of the Aryan Nation, and his wife were booked into the King County Jail and are awaiting an extradition hearing to return them to North Carolina, he said.
