Motorcade may affect traffic

Seattle Times staff reporter

Chinese President Hu Jintao's schedule during his whirlwind two-day visit could cause brief traffic jams in and around downtown Seattle, Redmond and possibly Everett.

Hu is scheduled to arrive about 10:30 a.m. Monday at Boeing Field and fly out Tuesday afternoon.

After arriving, he'll head downtown to the Fairmont Olympic Hotel for meetings. Early in the afternoon, he tentatively is scheduled to be driven to Redmond and meet with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. Later, he is to visit Gates' Medina home for dinner. Tuesday morning he may meet with Boeing executives in Everett before a noon luncheon at the Westin in Seattle.

Because of security concerns, the routes the president will travel have not been made public. He'll be escorted by Seattle police, the Secret Service and possibly other security.

No street closures have been announced.
