SILVERTON, Ore. — A Washington state teenager visiting Silver Falls State Park with his church group drowned in a natural pool at the base of one of the falls there, authorities said.

The 14-year-old from Renton, identified by police as Vadim Lats, was reported missing last night. Divers who searched below the waterfall this morning found his body.

His parents had arrived at the popular park early today. State Park spokesman Chris Havel said the section of the park where the drowning occurred was closed to the public until further notice.
