The Moyer Foundation, created by Seattle Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen, donated $1.5 million to the cause. Seattle-area residents who attended a fund-raiser Saturday night added an additional $2 million. Since its creation, the gala has raised more than $41 million for cancer research and patient programs at "The Hutch." "We are deeply grateful for The Moyer Foundation's donation and the generous gifts we've received to support research," said Dr. Lee Hartwell, president and director of the Hutchinson. Hillsboro, Ore. Mistake by jailers frees wrong inmate Deputies in Oregon's Washington County released the wrong inmate from jail, freeing by accident a man with a name similar to the one they intended to turn loose. Their intent was to free 19-year-old Nathaniel Browne, serving time for a parole violation related to a theft conviction. Instead, Nathan Brown, who is 22 and was due to be released in March, was freed on Friday at about 1:45 a.m. He was serving time for a similar offense. But Nathan Brown's get-out-of-jail-free pass was good for less than nine hours after deputies realized their mistake. Deputies from Tillamook County arrested Brown about 10:15 a.m. Friday. Sandy James, Washington County sheriff's spokeswoman, said the incident was being investigated. "The Sheriff's Office has very specific policies and procedures in place for dealing with the release of inmates," she said. "It goes way beyond looking at the names and charges."
Brown will be arraigned on charges of second-degree escape.
Olympic National Park Divers find third bone near submerged car Divers searching for human remains near submerged wreckage from a 1929 car accident in Lake Crescent found what may be a third human bone. The bone, possibly a femur, was found Saturday as a dive team began documenting the site. The divers were preparing to remove the new bone as well as two others found earlier this year in more than 150 feet of water near the wreckage. The three bones were found near the car in which Russell Warren, 35, and his wife, Blanch, 33, were traveling when they disappeared. They were en route from Port Angeles to their Bogachiel-area logging camp when the car plunged off what is now Highway 101. Times staff and news services
