Sunday, September 05, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Bumbershoot highlights
Today's Bumbershoot highlights: Liz Phair, 2:30 p.m., Mainstage In an era of trashy fakes, Phair is a real woman whose sensuous rock is genuine. Her latest hit, "Why Can't I?," is vintage Phair cheeky, hard-driving and fun. The Rising Stars of Hawaii, 2:30 p.m., McCaw Hall. The show features ukulele monster Jake Shimabukuro, young slack-key guitarist Makana and vocalist Raiatea Helm. Bobby Rush, 4:45 p.m., Blues Stage. The Jackson, Miss.-based bluesman brings his jokey jump blues to Bumbershoot. Soulive, 8:15 p.m., Bumbrella Stage. An infectiously funky electric jam band, with the added attraction of Seattle's own vocalist Reggie Watts.
Natalie MacMaster, 8:30 p.m., McCaw Hall A delightful fiddle virtuoso from Cape Breton Island, Canada, she's also a fine folk dancer. Her talented band includes bagpipes, pennywhistles, drums, guitar, bass and piano. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, 8:45 p.m., Blues Stage. One of the great masters of the blues.
