Today's Bumbershoot highlights:

Liz Phair, 2:30 p.m., Mainstage — In an era of trashy fakes, Phair is a real woman whose sensuous rock is genuine. Her latest hit, "Why Can't I?," is vintage Phair — cheeky, hard-driving and fun.

The Rising Stars of Hawaii, 2:30 p.m., McCaw Hall. The show features ukulele monster Jake Shimabukuro, young slack-key guitarist Makana and vocalist Raiatea Helm.

Bobby Rush, 4:45 p.m., Blues Stage. The Jackson, Miss.-based bluesman brings his jokey jump blues to Bumbershoot.

Soulive, 8:15 p.m., Bumbrella Stage. An infectiously funky electric jam band, with the added attraction of Seattle's own vocalist Reggie Watts.

Public Enemy, 8:15 p.m., Mainstage — The most important of the seminal rap groups of the '80s, songs like "Fight the Power" and "Don't Believe the Hype" and albums such as "It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back," widely considered the greatest rap CD, had much impact. The reunited PE is as angry as ever, but less revolutionary, calling for voting and participation in the political process.

Natalie MacMaster, 8:30 p.m., McCaw Hall — A delightful fiddle virtuoso from Cape Breton Island, Canada, she's also a fine folk dancer. Her talented band includes bagpipes, pennywhistles, drums, guitar, bass and piano.

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, 8:45 p.m., Blues Stage. One of the great masters of the blues.
