Three village communities on the Eastside

These three "urban-village" developments — the first of their kind in King County — already are home to 12,000 people. By the time construction is complete, the developments will likely have another 31,000 residents.

Issaquah Highlands:

Slogan: "Your place in the world"

Specs: 2,200 acres, with 1,500 acres of open space and parks

Housing: 3,250 units planned

Price tags: $170,000 condos to $1 million-plus custom homes

Completion: Estimated for 2008

Amenities: Almost no retail or services yet. Lone eatery, Sherm's BBQ, opened last year. Grocery store planned by early 2006.

Community involvement: Ten residents' groups, including one for pet owners . Events include bowling nights, stand-up comedy and wine tasting.

Redmond Ridge

Slogan: "Inspired by nature"

Specs: About 1,000 acres, about 60 percent open space; 15 miles of trails

Housing: 1,500 units in phase one. Up to 3,050 more in phase two and as part of adjacent Trilogy development

Price tags: $225,000 condos to $600,000-plus houses.

Completion: Phase 1 almost finished; phase 2 not before 2010

Amenities: Gas station, bank, coffee shop; supermarket under construction; business park planned.

Insta-homes: Some partially built off-site and erected in as little as 54 days.

Snoqualmie Ridge

Marketing mantra: "Start out neighbors. End up friends."

Specs: 1,340 acres, including 750 of open space and golf course; 20 miles of trails

Housing: 2,268 units planned

Price tags: Condos in the $200,000s to houses over $1 million

Completion: Phase 1 estimated for 2007; phase 2 not before 2010

Amenities: Jack Nicklaus Tournament Players Club golf course; small retail plaza with a cafe, bank, teriyaki shop, hair salon and dental practice; business park is open near town center.

Unique feature: Climbing wall
