Here and Now
The cinema series under the stars kicks off with the showing of Tim Burton's fable "Big Fish" (rated PG) on Aug. 6 and "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (rated G) on Aug. 7. Also scheduled next month on the 45-foot inflatable screen are the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" and classics such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Movies begin at dusk. Seating is first-come, first-served on the amphitheater's gently sloping lawn. If you'd like to bring your own seats, consider a low-back chair or blanket or a beanbag. You may be directed toward the back of the amphitheatre lawn if you bring a high-back chair because the front half is designated for low-back or no-back seating. Seattle Center officials advise moviegoers to leave pets at home unless they're legal guide dogs. Feel free to bring your own food and beverages. But no alcohol not even beer is permitted. Cellphones and pagers should be turned off during performances. Movies will be shown rain or shine. Movie schedule information is at www.seattlecenter.com online.
