Friday, July 23, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Monorail bidder seeks extension By Matthew Rodriguez
"We've asked for a two-week extension in order to complete the proposal," said Tom Stone, president of Transmax and bid director for "Team Monorail," which is offering Bombardier trains. An official with Seattle Monorail Project said the request had been received, but the agency has no plans to delay the Aug. 16 deadline, which was postponed for two months in May at the request of both teams. "At this point, there are no plans to grant any extensions," said Natasha Jones, communications manager for Seattle Monorail Project. "We're looking forward to the proposals from both teams." Patrick Kylen, president of Praha Strategies, which handles government relations for "Cascadia Monorail" and which is offering Hitachi trains, said his team plans to submit a final proposal Aug. 16. "It's not necessary for us to keep going because we're almost finished with it," Kylen said. In a letter to Seattle Monorail Project, Stone said a two-week delay would not affect the overall schedule. Stone noted that the "transitway agreement" was not approved by Seattle City Council until July 6 and not adopted by Seattle Monorail Project until July 14. Jones said Seattle Monorail Project plans to select a team by late September or early October, considering factors such as cost, schedule and design.
