BELLINGHAM — The body of a man who had been snowboarding was found buried by snow in a small avalanche on Mount Baker.

His name was not immediately released.

The body was found about 6 p.m. Monday and was dug out by members of Bellingham Mountain Rescue and employees of the Mount Baker ski resort, the Whatcom County sheriff's office said.

Deputies said it appears the man was hiking alone up the mountain near Austin Pass, fell off a 10- to 15-foot cliff and was covered by snow at the bottom.
