Monday, March 15, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Seattle man plans show of solidarity with Spain By Seattle Times Staff
SEATTLE A Seattle man is holding a one-man vigil tonight at 8:30 in Westlake Park downtown in honor of those killed in Thursday's bombings in Madrid. But Nathan Kaiser is hoping he has company. Kaiser, who is unemployed, traveled recently through Spain by rail. He hopes to show support by holding a candle tonight and having 190 seconds of silence for the people killed when the bombs, hidden in backpacks, went off in the trains. Kaiser, 28, has circulated an e-mail about the vigil and hopes supporters will attend. "The victims and their loved ones should know they are in our thoughts and prayers, that we feel their pain," Kaiser said. "If it's just me, that's fine. But I hope others will join me." He had been a block away from the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and said he was struck by the international support after the attack. "I remember vividly all the memorial services internationally," he said. "It showed solidarity across the world."
