Saturday, February 14, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Time for whole family to become scientists By Jack Broom
For several days, you've seen scientists who are visiting Seattle make headlines on weighty topics such as the cloning of human embryos, fragile oceans and global warming. But from noon to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow, it's Family Science Days at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. Jump right in at 12:30 p.m. today with the "Super Cool Science Show," which will use liquid nitrogen, props and volunteers to demonstrate that anyone can be a scientist. At 3:45 p.m. today, "Volts & Jolts" promises to be a hair-raising activity showing the many aspects of electricity. Also at the convention center, a Marine Science Pavilion will present interactive displays about what's hot in the marine sciences. For more details on the weekend's events, see www.aaas.org/meetings/MPE_11_FSD.shtml. Today only, shuttle buses run every half-hour from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. between the center and the African American Academy, Gatzert Elementary School and Pacific Science Center. Due to heavy response, no seats remain for "Oceans for Everyone," a public discussion tomorrow about the health of the oceans.
