Hundreds of hungry people in King County rely on emergency feeding programs to provide what may be their only meal on Thanksgiving. Among those serving meals free tomorrow are: Seattle Union Gospel Mission Men's Shelter, 318 Second Ave.: breakfast 7-8:30 a.m. (dinner at noon for shelter residents and their families), and three additional dinners for the homeless, 5-7 p.m. 206-622-5177. The Salvation Army's William Booth Center, 811 Maynard Ave. S., in the Chinatown International District: dinner, noon-2 p.m. Open to the public. 206-621-0145. Westgate Chapel: dinner at 11 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the church, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds. 425-775-2776. Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1634 19th Ave., Seattle: dinner immediately after service, from noon-2 p.m. Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches: dinner for Renton community, 1-3 p.m., St. Anthony's Parish Hall, 501 S. Fourth St., Renton. West Seattle Helpline: dinner, noon-3 p.m. at The Hall at Fauntleroy School Building, 9131 California Ave. S.W. 206-932-4357. Lemieux's Restaurant, 97 S. Lander St., Seattle: free dinner for those in need, noon-5 p.m. 206-624-9851. Thanksgiving preview Banks and credit unions will be closed tomorrow; most will be open Friday.
Most city, county and state offices, including the Governor's Office, will be closed tomorrow and Friday. Offices of the U.S. Attorney, U.S. District Court library and clerk's office, and U.S. Court of Appeals will be open Friday. State Department of Licensing offices will be closed tomorrow and Friday; some will be open Saturday. A list is online at www.dol.wa.gov. Downtown parking meters will be free Thanksgiving Day. Metro Transit will be on Sunday schedule tomorrow. The waterfront streetcar will not be in service, and the downtown bus tunnel will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Metro service will be on a reduced weekday schedule on Friday, and the downtown bus tunnel will be open. Community Transit will operate on Sunday schedule tomorrow, but Boeing-Everett and commuter routes will not run. On Friday, all local and most commuter weekday service will operate on regular schedule. Sound Transit Express bus service and Tacoma Link light rail will be on Sunday schedule tomorrow, with service on regular weekday schedule on Friday. Sounder commuter rail will not operate tomorrow but will be on holiday schedule on Friday. No home mail delivery tomorrow, but mail carriers will be on the job Friday. Public libraries and liquor stores will be closed tomorrow, but open Friday. Schools will be closed tomorrow and Friday. Shopping malls and most retailers will be closed tomorrow. Getting around Today, ferry service on the Anacortes-San Juan Islands route will operate on Saturday schedule to provide extra evening trips; the route will run on regular weekday schedule tomorrow. The Mukilteo-Clinton route will have extra trips tonight. Tomorrow, the Edmonds-Kingston route will run on Saturday schedule. The Point Defiance-Tahlequah route will be on holiday schedule with extra trips in the afternoon. Port Townsend-Keyston and Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth will be on regular schedule with extra trips in the afternoon. Seattle-Bremerton, Seattle-Bainbridge and Mukilteo-Clinton will be on holiday schedule. On Friday: The Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route will have extra midday trips. Information: 888-808-7977.
