The following recalls and safety alerts have been announced:

Toys. About 330,000 units of Nerf N-Strike Recon Blasters, manufactured in China by Hasbro, because the plunger can pull the user's skin when the blaster is fired. The company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have received 46 reports of injuries to children, including bruises, blood blisters and welts. The blasters were sold by Wal-Mart, Target and Toys "R" Us, as well as toy and discount stores around the country between November 2007 and August 2008. Details: www.hasbro.com/nerf or www.cpsc.gov.

Gas vent damper. About 45,000 automatic gas vent dampers, made in the U.S. by Effikal LLC, because the product could fail and pose a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The recalled product is installed with gas boiler systems used for heating. The recall involves the Effikal RVGP-PC Gas Vent Damper size 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. The product was sold by plumbing and heating wholesale distributors to plumbers and contractors nationwide from August 2007 through July. Details: www.effikal.com or www.cpsc.gov.

Batteries. About 13,000 rechargeable batteries sold with portable DVD/CD/MP3 players, manufactured in China and imported by Coby Electronics, because they can overheat and pose a fire risk. The TF-DVD 1020 players containing the batteries were sold around the country between May 2007 and July 2008. Details: www.cobyusa.com or www.cpsc.gov.

Necklace, MP3 player and CD player. About 12,000 children's ball and heart necklaces and portable CD and MP3 players, made in China and imported by Tween Brands, because their surface coating could have high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested. The recalled products include a necklace with pink beads and a center pink heart; a portable CD player decorated in flower and dot patterns; a pink MP3 player with multicolored hearts; and a blue MP3 player with a monkey's face pictured on front. The products were sold at Limited Too and Justice retail stores nationwide, the Limited Too catalog and online from May 2007 through August 2008. Details: www.limitedtoo.com, www.shopjustice.com or www.cpsc.gov.
