Pulling together a Halloween costume starts with a little skill and a lot of imagination. Here are some tips for creating a costume worth howling over — even if you don't sew.
• Start with a store-bought foundation, such as a sweat suit, pajamas, leggings, leotards or tights
• Select a pattern that fits your ability.
• Use glue or other adhesive products if you can't sew.
• Look around the house for everyday things that can be transformed into a costume.
• Choose fabrics such as felt and flannel that are easy to work with and don't fray easily.
• Avoid velvet, silks or other costly fabrics that are difficult to sew.
• Use trims to hide mistakes, such as an uneven hem or poorly stitched neckline.
• Use bathing caps and headbands to attach ears or antennas.
• Remember to include accessories, such as a wand, crown or cape in your costume plans.
• Makeup! A well-painted face or stylish headpiece can make a costume.
• Theme your treat bag, basket or bucket to the costume.
• Ask for help. Kids and other adults may have ideas and tips.
• Don't wait until the last minute.
