If you wanted a table at Canlis for Valentine's Day, too late. The restaurant filled its Feb. 14 reservations in less than an hour. But there is one table left up for grabs — the über-romantic Canlis Cachè, a private room-with-a-view hidden away upstairs. (John Kerry celebrated his anniversary there with wife Teresa, and there have been too many proposals there to count.) "It's gotta be the greatest table for Valentine's Day this side of the Mississippi," says owner Mark Canlis. "It's your own private Canlis, that's what it is."
But all that cachet comes with a price: $2,000, for starters. The restaurant is auctioning the room for Valentine's Day dinner at a minimum bid of $2,000, which will be used to fly home a local soldier just in time for a romantic dinner with his or her spouse, also at Canlis, on Feb. 14. To bid on the Canlis Cachè, call 206-283-3313 by Feb. 11. ...
THERE'S A PREGNANCY EPIDEMIC in Seattle, which, incidentally, has just been named No. 4 on Fit Pregnancy magazine's list of best cities in America to have a baby. As it turns out, we're also the best city in which to have a mommy manicure. That's because Seattle-based nail salon Butter London exclusively carries 3 Free Lacquers, a collection of nontoxic nail polish that is safe for moms-to-be. Co-founders Nonie Creme and Sasha Muir don't just talk the talk — they're both pregnant. The fashionable mum's color of choice? Yummy Mummy, of course. ...
HAPPY HOUR AT HOTEL MONACO just got a little happier with the addition of "Guitar Hero III." As part of the hotel's "Playful Escape" theme, guests can now rock with plastic guitars during the 5 p.m. wine hour on Fridays in the lobby. Ooh, Barracuda! ...
ROSES ARE RED, violets are blue — but glassybaby votives are forever, and now you can have them delivered to your door. The Seattle-based company is offering "bouquets" of handblown glassybaby as a Valentine alternative with its new "Fresh From the Oven" same-day delivery service (www.glassybaby.com). So if flowers mean "I'm sorry" and chocolate means "I love you," glassybaby must mean: "Valentine's Day is a fake holiday." It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be words. ...
WASHINGTON WIFE SWAP: Sarina McDonald of Suquamish in Kitsap County stars in this week's episode of the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," airing at 8 p.m. Wednesday on KOMO-TV. McDonald, a real-estate agent by day and burlesque dancer by night, trades places with a lumberjack wife in upstate New York. Ratings gold! Tune in to see whether McDonald's alter ego, Ravenna Black, trades in her fishnets for flannel. ...
CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS ROUNDUP: Former "Project Runway" designer Nick Verreos, who loves Persian food, dining at Saffron Kebab in Bellevue ... Jazz singer Diane Schuur performing at the private opening of the Northwest African American Museum ... "Inside Edition" anchor Deborah Norville at the downtown Seattle Borders book store ... Madeleine Albright checking in to the Hotel Monaco. No word on whether she gave Guitar Hero III a whirl, but one can hope.
