Seattle's most eligible bachelor is Renton firefighter Douglas Hand. That's according to Forbes magazine, which recently named the top singles for 20 U.S. cities. "I'm super-flattered," said Hand, 33, who seemed more perplexed by the honor than anything else. Not to worry, he's in good company. Forbes' Most Eligible Bachelor in New York City? Derek Jeter. But New York can have Mr. November. In firefighter calendar circles, at least, we've got Mr. August. ...
ROCKER PETE WENTZ ON SEATTLE: "The cool thing about Seattle, for me, is like if you did heroin, it's like going to the city that started heroin. Starbucks, you know what I'm saying? I can't walk four steps without going into a Starbucks and buying something, which is great."
And for that quote, I hereby forgive him for dating Ashlee Simpson. The Fall Out Boy bassist will be in town Sept. 15 to promote his new clothing line, Clandestine Industries for DKNY Jeans, at the Bellevue Macy's. "I don't make anything that I don't wear. It's not like I slap my name on something," Wentz said. The best part about that is, it's a women's clothing line: He wears the skinny jeans. In a junior size. ...
UGLY BETTY GOT HER BEAUTY SLEEP during a Labor Day weekend visit to Salish Lodge & Spa in Snoqualmie. "Betty" star America Ferrera and her boyfriend enjoyed their relaxing weekend — including a fly-fishing lesson, cozy dinner overlooking the falls and a couples spa treatment — so much they want to come back. Says a source: "She fell in love with the Pacific Northwest." ...
SANJAYA, YOU'RE GOING TO HOLLYWOOD: The Federal Way home to the "American Idol" star can be yours for $360,000! The four-bedroom, 1.75-bathroom went on sale this week as the family plans to move to Los Angeles next month. Realtor Dennis Fletcher, a personal friend of Sanjaya's mother's fiancé, is promoting the listing with autographed posters of Sanjaya. The 1963 split-level (MLS #: 27160229) includes a recording studio and will be open to visitors today from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2313 SW 339th St. Hurry. "Do I think it's gonna sell quick?" Fletcher says. "Yes." ...
WHY SUMMER IN THE HAMPTONS when you can wear seersucker and sip lemonade in a Clyde Hill backyard? Seattle bon-vivants John Stevens and Tim Williams threw their second annual "Hamptons Party" at their Hamptons-y white brick home, inviting guests to dress "over-the-top preppy, seaside swank and country club chic." The hosts wore pink shirts, blazers with brightly colored pocket squares, and seersucker pants. "I'm a very preppy guy all the time," said Stevens, who grew up on the East Coast and summered in the Hamptons. "This is just a way to make all our friends dress like us." And this is just a way for me to use my favorite word, "seersucker," in print. ...
WHERE'S THE BEEF?: The Metropolitan Grill has a new 32-oz. ribeye steak called the Long Bone — for its protruding, 10-inch bone — priced at $79. They are reportedly selling five to seven Long Bones per night. Hey, what do you call someone who pays $79 for a steak? Seersucker! ...
CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS ROUNDUP: Megan Mullally at a late-night showing of "Superbad" at the Cinerama ... Daryl Hall, minus Oates, walking with a cup of coffee in Ballard (and looking as leonine as ever) ... Eddie Vedder asking to be seated at an indoor table for dinner at Pink Door ... Members of the Wu Tang Clan ordering room service all night to their suite at Hotel 1000 ... Seahawks kicker Josh Brown requesting his favorite server, Bruno, while dining with his girlfriend at the Met ... Vonda Shepard of "Ally McBeal" fame, at Hotel Monaco. She had her son with her, but no dancing babies anywhere in sight.
