What song would you like played at your memorial? We asked a few notable locals and got these responses:

" 'Moon River.' Turns out that's one of Bob Dylan's favorite songs. I tried to convince my wife to play it at our wedding, which she refused. It's got simple lyrics... and when I was young, I had the old 45 and played it all the time."

"I've lost a couple of friends over the last few years, and I really think a memorial service should be happy... . I'd like 'Amazing Grace' and the music from the movie 'Somewhere in Time.' That's the most beautiful soundtrack."

"I would select four songs that would represent the four changes in a person's life — birth, teenager, midlife and elder. So each song would be from each change. My birth song would be a Native Coastal Salish song for kids. Teenager would be a Harry Nilsson song. Midlife would be 'Taking Care of Business,' from Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Elder song would be back to a Native song, maybe my 'Cedar Song,' cedar being the 'long life maker.' "

"I think I'd rather [people] read a bunch of wonderful first lines from books I've loved. I do know what I want engraved on my tombstone, though: 'She'd rather be reading.' And I want some books and a flashlight (just in case) buried with me. With extra batteries."
