Patent leather can add a girlie touch to a menswear look or add glitz to an everyday outfit. But a little bit can go a long way just enough to catch the light. "The shine of black patent leather is the perfect accent with menswear pieces such as pinstriped trousers, or blazer," says Laura McDowell, T.J. Maxx fashion spokeswoman. It's easiest to incorporate into an existing wardrobe through accessories; that way the patent doesn't outshine the total package, she says. Here's McDowell's shopping list: Large duffel bag in a bold color. Waist-cinching belt with a buckle. Ballet-style shoes or sneakers. Clutch purse. Jacket that features patent leather and fur, real or faux.
