Area groups plan holiday grief programs

Local programs will address grief and the holidays.

• "Grief and the holidays": This program by Providence Hospice of Seattle will include speakers, grief rituals and time for questions. A separate program is offered for children of attending adults. 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, Bloedel Hall, St. Mark's Cathedral, 1245 10th Ave. E., Seattle. Free. Preregister: 206-749-7702.

Holiday bereavement support: Program by Swedish Hospice. 9-11:30 a.m., Nov. 22, Swedish Medical Center/First Hill Campus, 747 Broadway, Seattle. Free. To register, 206-386-6602 or e-mail carol.kummet@swedish.org

• "Grief and Surviving the Holidays": A bereavement specialist from GriefWorks, a nonprofit organization in Auburn, will facilitate the forum, which will include a brief presentation, handouts and an opportunity to ask questions. 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 28, Auburn Regional Medical Center, Plaza One, 202 N. Division Street, Auburn. Free. Drop-in format; no registration necessary. 253-333-9420.

• "Grief and Surviving the Holidays": Free forum by GriefWorks. 10:30 a.m. to noon, Dec. 9, Holy Family Church, 505 17th St. S.E., Auburn, 253-333-9420.

Holiday party: For younger widowed men and women and their children. Includes children's activities. This event offers a chance for adults and children who are grieving to come and feel supported. 6 p.m., Dec. 13, The Healing Center, 2212 Queen Anne Ave. N., #328, Seattle, 206-261-6855.

Remembrance events include:

• Time of Remembrance: This tranquil program organized by the Stevens Hospital Bereavement Program includes inspirational music, readings and a memorial-candle ceremony. Refreshments and fellowship complete the program. Families and children welcome. 4:30 to 6 p.m., Dec. 14, Edmonds Floral Conference Centre, 201 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds, 425-640-4404.

Lights of Remembrance: People are invited to join Swedish Medical Center staff as they remember and honor the hospital patients, hospice clients and friends and family who have died. Dec. 7, 2-3:30 p.m Swedish Medical Center/First Hill Campus, Glaser Auditorium, 747 Broadway, Seattle, 206-386-2082.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting: This program will consist of poetry readings, reading of children's names, candle lighting, and music. Parents are encouraged to arrive at 6:45 p.m. if they would like their children's names read. Candles provided. 7 p.m. December 14, Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 1575 145th Pl. S.E., Bellevue. 425-821-2644.

• The Compassionate Friends Candle Lighting: Families will remember their child as they come forward to light candles. This program also include music and poetry reading. Families welcome to bring pictures or remembrances. Candles provided. 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14, Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 S.E. Everett Mall Way, Everett, 425-478-2345.
