· Iraq and The Middle East: Talking Without Despair, a panel discussion, 2:30-4:30 p.m., Delridge Community Center, 4501 Delridge Way S.W. Sponsored by West Seattle Neighbors for Peace and Justice. Monday, March 15
· "How to be a longtime activist without becoming bitter," guest speaker Katha Pollitt, activist, writer and commentator; 7 p.m. at Pacific Lutheran University, Chris Knutzen Hall in the University Center, located off Park Avenue South and 123rd Street South, Tacoma. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, March 18
· "God Willing? Religious Fundamentalism, the 'War on Terror,' and an Echoing Press." A lecture questioning U.S. policies in the aftermath of Sept.11; 7 p.m., Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave., Seattle. Tickets $5-15. Information: 206-543-3839.

Friday, March 19
· Candlelight vigil on Mercer Island, observing the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Mercer Island PeaceMakers invite the community to stand in silent respect for all who died in Iraq in the past year; 7-8 p.m., intersection of 40th Avenue and Island Crest. Information: www.mipeacemakers.org.

Saturday, March 20
· A salute to Operation Iraqi Freedom at Camp Murray. Join those in support of the troops, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Interstate 5 overpass at Exit 122 (Madigan Hospital/Camp Murray), Tacoma.

· Antiwar rally at 1 p.m. at McKinley Park near the Tacoma Dome, then march to federal courthouse, 1919 Pacific Ave., Tacoma.

· "The World Still Says No To War," a day of protest marking the anniversary of the war's start. TV star Ed Asner is keynote speaker. A 10:30 a.m. workshop followed by an interfaith memorial service at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave., First Hill, Seattle. At noon, those gathered will march downtown to rally at Pier 62/63 at Alaskan Way. Information: www.mar20th.org or 1-877-MAR20th (627-2084).
