Four 'American Idol' names you'll forget after tonight, and one "Crystal" clear favorite
Posted by Todd Mossburg
Sure, I heard the hype, the predictions, all that chatter, I mean I couldn't go anywhere without hearing it. From my Scrapbook club gatherings where the women would bend my ears on how and why the next "American Idol" was going to be a female artist to my favorite corner coffee hut. (aka Coffee Miner)
Even there, the music loving barista will sell me the best Grande non-fat sugar free 3-4-2 Peanut butter white chocolate iced latte along with her takes on how AI9 is the season of She-Power.
In the produce aisle of my local grocery store, I couldn't search for the ripest cantaloupes without some AI junkie mom, sporting a Kelly Clarkson concert T-shirt, stopping me to share their epiphany. I mean, can't a man find the perfect melons in peace?
You probably thought that us bloggers are the journalistic scums of society, unrecognizable in public places. You are wrong. We have arrived!!! I knew it the day I got my first piece of hate e-mail from a disgruntled Idol fan. Hmm, maybe I can make some room next to my TV Emmy's for a Blogger's Choice Award. Vote early and often for some of us here at Idol Confessions. I think the awards are blog-evised before The Oscars Sunday. Kidding, I don't know what I'm talking about, ever!
Back to where my mind was going with this TLDNR post... I didn't get it until last night. The women are so much better than the men, hands down. I am a believer thanks to Bowersox, Magnus, Delamor, Scott, and Epperly, I've seen the light, your next "'American Idol" will be a female. I am completely convinced of it.
Sorry Andrew "Gokey" Garcia, I'm off your bandwagon, and putting all my support behind the ladies and more specifically in the basket of Bowersox.
The Mosscar for Best Performance goes to...

Crystal "Jewel" Bowersox
"Long As I Can See The Light" by Creedence Clearwater Revival
She stepped up to the microphone, and took a 1970 song sung by CCR's John Fogerty, and completely nailed it. She is so pure as an artist. Her voice is a mix of Janis Joplin, Jewel, and Melissa Etheridge. Funny, those female icons are three of her musical influences in life. You can hear the impact they have had on Crystal in each song she sings.
I can't wait to hear CB do an Etheridge track. I want her to go old school and do her first hit single "Like The Way I Do" but strip it completely down to just her and an acoustic guitar. If not that song, maybe she can take on one of two songs from her Lucky CD, "Breathe" or "Tuesday Morning."
The Golden Raspberryburg for Worst Performance goes to...

Haeley "Smiley" Vaughn
"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus
Ear muffs Madison (my 9-year-old) because singing a Miley Cyrus song is supposed to make you sound better. Hannah Montana is not a tough artist to sing to. If you've follow any of my previous blogs then you know I had been a Haeley supporter. I saw more than a bright smile in a sea of naysayers, but last night she just proved she is not cut out for this at 16 years old. Like Kara DioGuardi said in her feedback, I agree that Vaughn needs lots of molding. She's got the gift for sure. Time to spend some time opening it up to release all of it's potential as is matures.

Kids grab a No. 2 pencil and a Scantron:
Trivia time, what do all of these people have in common? Aloha Mischeaux; Jose Penala; AJ Tabadlo; Alexandrea Lushington; Nathaniel Marshall.
All of them woke up from their AI dreams in the second round of castoffs.
Here are the names and faces you will forget by Monday.

According to The Mossy Index scores from the past two nights, stop me if you heard this before Tim Urban and John Park will be singing their farewell songs tonight along with Haeley Vaughn and Didi Benami when AI gets down to the Top 16.
Wait? No one said there would be math involved:
Let's break down some of the numbers here which are lining up with the theory that the girls are schooling the boys at the microphone.
The Girls Rule:
This week they scored 336 points for an average score of 33.6 for each singer.
Last week this same group scored 398 points for an average of 33.1 per artist.
After two weeks their total score is 734 for a 33.3 avg.
The Guys Drool:
This week they scored just 297 points for an average of 29.7 for each singer.
A week ago they totaled 354 points for an average of 29.5 per artist.
After two weeks their total is 651 (83 pts less) for a 29.6 avg.
The women are scoring 4 more points per performance
The Mossy Index 5 performers scoring the most points after two weeks of performances...
- Crystal Bowersox 91
- Siobhan Magnus 82
- Michelle Delamor 78 (up from #4)
- Casey James 77 (down from #3)
- Lilly Scott 77 (up from #11)
Count Von Count:
"Pitchy/Screetchy" counter = 4
"Kara flubs" counter = 3
"Boo/Hiss/Aww Simon" counter = 3 (new low?)
Mama always had a way of explaining things so I could understand them...
Her Top 3 favorite performance from last night...
1. Crystal Bowersox
2. Katelyn Epperly
3. Siobhan Magnus
Mom is saying goodbye cruel world to Haeley Vaughn and a shocker here, Katie Stevens. Just weeks ago Katie was a target of her "picks to click."
A check into her vote for the American Idol that she selected after seeing the Top 24 perform shows she is not wavering off her pick of Bowersox.
Mom ranks the judges:
Simon - "I'm gonna miss him. He tells them straight up how good/bad they are."
Kara - "I like her because her critiques help them more than any other judge."
Ellen - "No music background makes her someone you just listen to for laughs."
Randy - "Why does Randy call even the girls "dudes? Isn't there "The Y-Factor" show somewhere in like Uzbekistan where he can go be an Executive Producer?"
IC:
* Is there anything more annoying than DioGuardi looking like she's the teacher's pet every time Simon Cowell agrees with her critique?
* AI pet peeve, I hate when an aspiring Idol sings a song from a crowned Idol. Hate it!!! After saying that I thought Paige Miles put some fire into her take on Clarkson's "Walk Away." Nice performance. But no more, please.
* I think I need to create a Mossy Index for which AI hopeful is most adorable to see how much of a lead Siobhan "Sinead" Magnus has on her competition. Before she belted out the best vocal high note of Season 9 and maybe all-time on AI, She-she was winning over more fans with her corky and unique personality. I have nicknamed her Sinead after O'Connor, and with that, I'd love to see her go take next week to completely shift it into a low slow gear, with an emotional rendition of Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U."
* When is the last time we've seen an AI LIVE broadcast in a "stretch" mode? Ryan Seacrest ad-libbing some questions around the stage at the end of the show because they actually under on time. Even a camera cut sequence of clapping. My blogging DI (that stands for Directing Idol) Patrick Brown must have been drooling at the opportunity to cut an end of show montage like that.
Mossy Bonus track:
Happy belated birthday to Jon Bon Jovi, who gets overshadowed every year by the Doc. (Dr. Seuss) So, I send AI fans off with a tribute to 48 year old JBJ. David Cook does the honors in his first audition on 'American Idol" Season 7.
Until next time, let your boogie out. Later days.
