Should Brendan Sherrer start?

Coach Lorenzo Romar said he hasn't decided if walk-on Brendan Sherrer will start tomorrow when Washington plays Arizona in a pivotal game that could have Pac-12 championship implications.

Since Romar took the UW job 10 years ago, he likes to start seniors in their last home game. It's become something of a tradition although there was a year when there were too many seniors for everyone to start.

Still often times non-starters and deep bench players are put in the lineup in the home finale. They're honored before the game. They walk on the Edmundson Pavilion floor with loved ones and Romar gives them a plaque as a dedication to their service. Usually emotions run high. Two years ago, Quincy Pondexter famously broke down and wept for minutes.

Sherrer, Darnell Gant and Tyreese Breshers will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

There's an assumption Gant, a co-captain will replace freshman forward Desmond Simmons on Saturday. Gant admitted Thursday that he was already emotional and many teammates believe he'll break down much like Pondexter.

When UW players were asked about whether Sherrer would start, they were unsure and noted the circumstances were less than ideal to totally shakeup the lineup. Gant it can be argued is part of the rotation and he began the season in the starting lineup. Sherrer has played a total of 17 minutes this season.

Romar was unsure if the seniors would start Saturday.

"I don't know if we'll always do it," he said. "I'm still debating right now. It' just something about later on in life you can remember your name was called in that starting lineup. ... That's something that seems very small, but if you get that opportunity it can be pretty special."

Romar said Aziz N'Diaye injured his left wrist Sunday against Oregon State. There may be partially torn ligaments, but at this time it's best to categorize the injury as a sprain.
