C.J. Wilcox gets the Brandon Roy treatment

As we noted this morning, sophomore guard C.J. Wilcox won't practice for the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in his left leg. He'll be evaluated on game days to determine if he's able to play.

Coach Lorenzo Romar said former UW star Brandon Roy didn't practice as a junior while recovering from knee surgery.

"Many people feel when Brandon was a junior he didn't start because we were loaded and just didn't start," Romar said. "He was still rehabbing his knee and he was kind of available if we needed him. There were games when he said 'Coach of if you don't need me tonight I'm OK, I'll sit out so I can rest this. We decided it would be better for him to come off the bench instead of starting one game and not staring another game. So that was the closest to this."

Romar also touched on UCLA, Aziz N'Diaye's free throw technique and the first half of the Pac-12 season. Here's a video of today's press conference.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON LINKS:

--- UW senior Darnell Gant told the Kitsap Sun: "I didn't think (UCLA) were going to be as great as the media was making them out to be. ... I didn't think they should be ranked in the (preseason top 25). I didn't think they were that good. But they're a decent team. They got a lot of hype early, but that wasn't a shock to me that they were struggling."

--- Here's the video of Washington State coach Ken Bone talking about how the Cougars are coping with the loss of Faisal Aden (knee) who is out the rest of the season. Newcomer Mike Ladd (thumb) has not played in five games and Bone is unsure when he'll return.

--- Bud Withers pens a column on the troubles surrounding USC and coach Kevin O'Neill who said: "I was expecting to walk out to the parking garage the other day and have a van fall on my head. That would have been perfect."

--- Arizona may seek a hardship waiver that would allow junior guard Kevin Parrom, who suffered a season-ending broken foot Saturday, to play a fifth season in 2013-14.

--- Doug Halller at the Arizona Republic takes a look at who's not playing in the Pac-12.

--- Oregon coach Dana Altman is disappointed with the Ducks who are 15-6 and tied for third in the Pac-12 at 6-3.

--- Amusing story from Paul Buker at the Oregonian who wonders why wonders why Oregon State cheerleaders weren't allowed on the Matt Arena floor Sunday.

--- My good friend Doug Tammaro reminds me I may have erred while omitting Arizona State's Jon Gilling from my Pac-12 mid-season all-freshman team. Got to admit, Doug makes a strong case for Gilling.

--- Had fun last week talking to Jeff 'huskylenz' Taylor for a Q & A interview on Husky Haul.

--- Interesting developments at Duke in which the low attendance has forced the school to sell tickets in the student-only section.

--- And finally, cool story on how John Wooden has influenced a basketball coach in Uganda.
