The memorial service for former Washington player Andrew Moritz is 1 p.m. Saturday at University Presbyterian Church.

Family and friends will also gather 8 p.m. Saturday at the Garage in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood to celebrate Moritz's life.

Moritz played four years at Washington (1996-2000). He walk on and earned a scholarship as a senior.

"I met Andrew one time and so many people talk about how great a guy he was before he was sick and what an inspiration he was as a teammate and as a friend," coach Lorenzo Romar said. "I've followed what's been going on with him. It's very unfortunate anytime we lose someone, but especially at that age."

Moritz died last Saturday after a three-year battle with cancer.
