It appears Washington added a member to the 2012 class Monday when Andrew Andrews, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Benson High School in Portland committed to the Huskies, according to Duck Territory.

He reportedly averaged 20 points and eight assists as a junior at Benson and plans to attend prep school next year. He should have four years of eligibility if he arrives in 2012.

Andrews flew below the radar of the prominent recruiting services, however, he received offers from Washington State, Nebraska, Colorado, Colorado State, San Diego and several WCC schools.

Judging by the video clip (above) taken by the Oregonian, Andrews is a pass-first guard with a fluid style.

It's interesting to note that after decades of what seemed like neglect, the Huskies appear to be making inroads with recruits in Portland and Oregon. This year, UW nabbed Terrence Ross and nearly landed Terrence Jones. In addition to Andrews, Washington is also pursuing Jordan Tebbutt, a 6-5 G/F out of Tualatin HS for the 2012 class.

Can't think of too many Oregon recruits that chose Washington other than Phil Nelson.

--- Five-star recruit Jabari Brown confirmed with Rivals.com on its pay site he made his first trip last weekend and visited the Huskies. "I went out there and they are good guys. Coach Romar and the coaching staff are close to the players. It was a real nice family atmosphere," Brown, a 6-5 shooting guard told Rivals.com. He visits Connecticut, Oregon and Georgia Tech over the next three weeks. Brown also has Arizona State on his short list.

--- According to Scout.com's pay site, San Diego prep standout Angelo Chol has added North Carolina and Arizona to his list that had included UW, Kansas and Alabama. Arizona will visit Chol Sept. 29 and North Carolina's visit is scheduled for Sept. 30.

--- Arizona is putting together a very nice recruiting class. The Wildcats received a verbal commitment from Josiah Turner, a 6-3 point guard from Sacramento, who is ranked No. 24 by Scout.com and should be a McDonald's All-America candidate. Turner joins 6-4 guard Nick Johnson and 6-8 forward/center Sidiki Johnson, giving UA three recruits ranked in the top 100. Technically the Wildcats have just one scholarship to offer for the 2011 class because Jamelle Horne is the only senior on the team.

--- It's been an awful start for new Oregon coach Dana Altman who appears to have lost another player. This time it's LeKendric Longmire who looks as if he won't be eligible for the season. The 6-5 senior forward isn't practicing in individual workouts and Altman danced around the question when asked by the Register-Guard if Longmire is eligible. If he's out, that leaves Oregon with eight players on scholarship.

--- Doug Haller at the Arizona Republic unveiled his preseason basketball rankings and he's got Washington on top.

--- Colorado worked a deal with the Big 12 to leave a year earlier and will join the Pac-12 conference next year.

--- Former UW star Eldridge Recasner, who was inducted in the Pac-10 Hall of Honor this year, joined the 2010 Husky Hall of Fame Class. Inductees include the 2005 national championship volleyball team, Tina Frimpong (women's soccer, 2001-2004), Kristina Kraszewski (women's tennis, 1997-2001), Benji Olson (football, 1995-1997), Recasner (men's basketball, 1987-1990), and Jennifer Spediacci (softball, 1997-2000). The ceremony is 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Hec Ed.
