Quincy Pondexter guaranteed a victory over Washington State when the Huskies travel to Pullman on Saturday.

During an appearance Sunday night on Q It Up Sports, Washington's senior captain said: "We're going to win," when asked about the Cougars.

Wazzu has lost six of their past eight contests, including a 92-64 defeat to UW last month at Edmundson Pavilion. Pondexter had 29 points and 12 rebounds in that game.

HERE'S A SNIPPET OF PONDEXTER'S INTERVIEW WITH Q13's AARON LEVINE:

(Are you over the road curse after the win at Stanford?) "Who knows. We have to come out and play basketball. WE got to play the way that we play. I don't believe in road curses or anything like that, but we have to take care of things that we have to take care of. I think a game that was similar to a road game was our game against USC last week. It was a game that we didn't do things right and we lost at home. ... We have to come out and play Husky basketball."

(Do you think UW needs to win the Pac-10 Tournament to make the NCAA tournament?) It's going to be our goal to win the Pac-10 Tournament, but we just have to finish out this season strong. They look at how you play your last 10 games or so. We have to really leave an impressionable mark on the rest of our season."

(Why would you take the blame if UW doesn't make the tournament?) "This is my team. I'm the leader of this team. I'm the captain. There's so much responsibility on my shoulders that I feel that if we don't make it to that level, it is my fault."

(Is the criticism of Coach Lorenzo Romar fair?) "Coach Romar is one of the hardest working coaches that there is. He cares so much about us and putting ourselves in a position to win that there's no way you should blame him for anything. We have to come out, we lace them up and we have to play. And it's under his orders. He does everything that he can to make sure that we're fully prepared to win these games. I think if anything it's been our fault. It's not coach Romar's fault. He's a terrific coach and he's not to blame at all."

(How instrumental has he been on your career at Washington?) "Tremendously. He really cares about me as a person and a player. For him to make sure that I learned the game of basketball before he gave me the keys to leadership and the offense ... it's something that most coaches don't do. I'm really so blessed to have someone like him in my life."

(How much do you follow the mock drafts online?) "Not much. I just hear where some guys have me projected or where other guys are projected, but I don't pay much attention to it."

(What would it mean to be the only one to win five Pac-10 Player of the Week awards?) That would mean the world to me, but at the end of the day, it's all about his team. So if I do my work in the week with this team's success, it would be great to have that reward but everything that Ive done is based on how this team is doing. So any award I get, it's really praise to this team."

(Who is the funniest guy on the team?) "I'd probably say Scott Suggs ... or Brendan Sherrer."

(Could you make contact off a Danielle Lawrie softball pitch?) "Easy. Eyes closed."

Pondexter said he talks to former Husky Spencer Hawes a couple times a week and considers Jon Brockman and Brandon Roy mentors.

Pondexter said he would beat Klay Thompson and Landry Fields in a one-on-one matchup.

Finally, Pondexter said he'd pick himself if he could vote for the Pac-10's Player of the Year award.
