Bad news for UW: UCLA is angry after blowout defeat; Good news: Bruins are banged up
Posted by Percy Allen
UCLA is ticked off after being trounced Saturday by cross-town rival USC.
Bruins guard Mike Roll told the Los Angeles Times: "All I can say is it's not going to be like that anymore."
Those are bold words, but UCLA will have a hard time keeping Roll's promise because several players are questionable for Thursday's game against Washington.
F Nikola Dragovic (right knee), G Jerime Anderson (hip flexor) and F Reeves Nelson (flu) are questionable.
If Dragovic plays, coach Ben Howland wants him to focus on rebounding.
RECASNER APOLOGIZES TO GADDY:
--- On KJR-AM, former Husky great Eldgridge Recasner apologized to Abdul Gaddy for commenting last week the freshman guard hasn't lived up to expectations and shouldn't start this season.
"I feel like I owe Abdul Gaddy and his family an apology," Recasner said. "I've been feeling bad for the last couple of days. I should be feeling like I just won the lottery ... instead I'm walking around feeling down. ... I played the game and the one thing I've always hated is when somebody said something that really embarrassed me and I feel like that statement embarrassed Abdul Gaddy."
Coach Lorenzo Romar called the show and added: "When you have the passion that you guys have for Husky basketball, you're going to try to call it like you see it. I kind of personally have gotten hardened to the media a little bit. I just understand that if things don't go well, you're going to get blasted. If they go well, you're going to to be commended until they don't go well enough, long enough and then you're going to get blasted for that. I've kind of got hardened to it. But young people, they haven't been around as long as I have and it can affect them."
MORE POWER RANKINGS:
--- Mike DeCourcy at the Sporting News puts ASU atop his Pac-10 power rankings.
--- The Oregonian's Mike Tokito UW at No. 2.
--- The Arizona Republic's Doug Haller also has ASU and UW at 1 and 2.
AROUND THE PAC-10:
--- Everyone likes to talk about Arizona State's defense, but no one notices the change in the offense since the Sun Devils scored 37 points in a loss to USC on Jan. 2. Coach Herb Sendek chucked the Princeton offense in favor of a faster-paced motion offense. The switch helped spark a 4-game winning streak. During the span, ASU is averaging 70.3 points per game.
