Desmond Simmons, Angelo Chol and more Pac-10 bashing
Posted by Percy Allen
Seems like we're beating a dead horse with all the Pac-10 bashing, but Mike Tokito at The Oregonian put the conference's woes in perspective with this blog post yesterday.
Before last night's games, the conference had a 2-12 road record and 6-10 record in games at a neutral site.
Last season, the Pac-10 had an 11-14 record in non-conference road games and a 28-26 mark in neutral-site games.
SOME AFTERNOON LINKS/NOTES:
--- It's a little old, but ESPN's high school-oriented magazine put soon-to-be Husky Desmond Simmons on the cover of it's latest edition Rise. In the piece, Simmon's is depicted as "a tireless jack-of-all-trade."
--- Last week, Simmons led Salesian High, the defending Division IV state champion, to a 65-34 win over Albany. He had 23 points and 14 rebounds, both game highs.
--- According to a report on Scout.com's pay site, San Diego (Calif.) Hoover High 6-11 center Angelo Chol, a 2011 recruit, removed Washington from the top of his list, but still counts the Huskies among several suitors.
Chol named UW his top school last summer, but in a recent interview with Scout, he said: "My high school coach had a talk with me though and explained that I need to explore my options. I thought about it and thought that he was right and that I better explore my options. ... "I like Washington still. Without a doubt I would feel comfortable going there. I like Coach Romar. He's a good person, I feel like I can trust him."
--- Norvel Pelle, a 6-8 junior forward at Price High in Los Angeles told Scout he's visited UW and UCLA and he has offers from nearly every school in the Pac-10.
--- And finally, one of the best local high school boys basketball games this weekend features a clash of two of the area's top point guards: UW recruit Gary Bell Jr. of Kentridge and Federal Way's Isiah Umipig, who is headed to Cal State Fullerton. Kentridge (2-0) hosts top-ranked and defending 4A state champion Federal Way (3-0) on Saturday. Bell, a junior, scored 30 points in the season opener and 16 in the second game. Federal Way also has San Francisco-bound recruit Cole Dickerson.
