Another ex-Husky - not exactly - comes home

Just when it seemed as if the Homecoming theme ended last week after Phil Nelson and Adrian Oliver returned to Montlake, another player with Washington ties visits the Huskies on Sunday when Montana comes to town.
This time it's Jack McGillis, above left.
Who is Jack McGillis? Well back in April 2005, McGillis, a 6-6 forward from Hellgate High School in Missoula, Mont., spurned a scholarship from Idaho and decided to walk-on at Washington with the hopes of earning a scholarship after the season.
At the time, UW had 15 scholarships committed - the NCAA limit is 13 - and not even Romar Math could make a scholarship available for McGillis immediately.
Getting McGillis to walk-on was considerable an achievement for the Huskies because as a senior, he led Hellgate to the Class AA state championship and was named the tournament MVP. That season McGillis averaged 19.9 points per game, shot nearly 61 percent from the field and 49.2 percent from 3-point range.
He was considered a late-bloomer, who grew three inches his final year in high school.
Once the word got out about him, Oregon State and Washington State offered him scholarships. He chose OSU and played in in 60 games and had seven starts during two season with the Beavers before transferring to Montana in August 2007 and sitting out the '07-08 season.
As a junior last season, McGillis averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds. This season, he's averaging 7.6 points and 4.6 rebounds and he's yet to develop into the star the Grizzlies had hoped they landed when he transferred from Oregon State.

--- Washington State stayed perfect and ran its record to 5-0 with a 78-69 win over Nicholls State to move into the championship of the Great Alaska Shootout.
