At his weekly press conference today, coach Lorenzo Romar acknowledged the Pac-10 is struggling. (Check out the video below.) He also talked about Quincy Pondexter's hot start, the 11-man rotation and Seattle University.

HERE'S THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM ROMAR'S INTERVIEW:

(Is your non-conference schedule looking better after watching other Pac-10 teams lose early?) "If you want to say your schedule lacks high-profile names, well yeah I would agree with that. But if you say our schedule is not difficult, Id say you're wrong there. I think you're seeing that Portland is really good, Georgetown is really good, Texas Tech we're about to play coming up. Montana is undefeated. We've got some tough opponents on our schedule as far as I'm concerned. But are they household names? No. Some of them."

(Could you imagine a situation where you can play 10-11 guys a night?) "I don't think it will be 10-11 guys a night, but you know, based on foul trouble someone gets hurt during a game. We had a game two years ago where this guy from Utah was killing us and we gave Justin Holiday a try. If the guy wasn't doing so well - Justin it was his freshman year - maybe he wouldn't have played that much. Different games create different situations where you may play 10 or 11, but I would say when we get rolling, when we really get going we probably won't play 11 guys every game. But given the situation, that could happen.

"But what I do think is this season all year long, I don't see maybe somebody being buried on the bench. There may be a guy who's playing six minutes a game now and will end up playing 18 minutes later. A guy that's playing 18 minutes now may not play at all later. That could happen. But I don't see that happening amongst 5-6 guys. Probably just a few."

(Anybody start the season as hot as Quincy?)

"I would imagine their probably has been some, but I'd have to really sit down and give it some thought. As far as he's concerned, he's doing pretty well. You know, Jon Brockman's freshman year. He started out, I think he was all-tournament in our BCA Tournament his freshman year with Brandon Roy on the team. I think he was the MVP of the tournament. He started out pretty good. But in terms of rebounding, I mean averaging a double double and I mean not 10.0, 12. Not 10 points, but 22 or whatever it is. Or 23? Do you know what it is? Twenty-four? Twenty-four and 12, that's a pretty good start.

(Has he surpassed your expectations?) "Yes he has. I wouldn't have thought he would be averaging 12 rebounds per game or 24 points. I would have thought 18 and 9 or 18 and 8 and I would have said wow he's really playing. To average 18 and 9, he's balling. But 24 and 12, yeah he's exceeded my expectations.

(Can he keep this going?) "I don't know. That's pretty good. If you finish the year at 24 and 12, you're an All-American. Maybe first team."

(Think he can be a lottery pick?) "All of that is too hard to tell right now and please don't ask him about that. All of a sudden there would be (rumors) that he's trying to go pro after the quarter."

(Biggest improvement for Quincy?) "I'd say the rebounding. His shot selection. You know he's only taken two three-point shots and he's improved his shot. I think he can make them. But his ability to attack right now. He's just really attacking and playing really efficiently on the offensive end.

(Has Quincy's new shot given him confidence in other parts of his game?) "I think it had something to do with it, but Quincy really understands our system. He really understands the college game. He understands what butters his bread. He is stronger. He's a senior. And again, what we're seeing is what happens if you're talented and you stay in school for four years. You really improve. And that's what I think we're seeing."

(Have you seen Seattle University play?) "Oh yeah. They're good. Doesn't surprise me. Cam (Cameron Dollar) and his staff got 'em playing hard, and they are getting after it. They are fun to watch.

(Ever have any 'what if' moments watching Charles Garcia?) "I've had many of those before this season started. All of those are done now. I'm happy for him. It's great to see. It's great to see him having success right now."
