Josh Smith picks UCLA
Posted by Percy Allen
***UPDATE 8:26 PM***
The Daily News is reporting Kentwood High star Josh Smith will pick UCLA over Washington.
Here's their updated report with quotes from Smith who told Jon Gold: ""Not trying to disrespect any other school, but with UCLA, people see those four letters and they remember all those great players, those champions, Coach Wooden. I want to wear those four letters well."
The 6-9, 300-pounder is the 13th rated recruit by Scout.com and the fourth rated center.
Scout.com writer Dave Telep also says Smith chose the Bruins.
Smith told Telep: "In the end it was something I wanted to do. This was my choice and it's where I wanted to go. I would say at the end of my junior year. Before that, they were in the front kind of like what the rumors were saying. I gave the other schools a chance just to see. I wanted to look at every aspect of staying home but after going over ever factor, I knew it was UCLA."
"I wasn't ready to commit (end of my junior year) and my mom wanted me to take visits," Smith told Scout.com on its pay site. "I knew since 8th grade when I had a feeling that it would be a showdown between those two.
"I would say both. Coming home, its kind of one of those things. I saw it with Kevin Love when he came home to Oregon. I'll be excited to play at home in front of friends and against the UW guys that I grew up. They'll probably boo but I'll try to block that out and help the team win."
Still no word on Jefferson High (Ore.) standout Terrence Jones who reportedly was going to decide tonight if he's going to sign in the early period or normal period.
