Had a chance to talk to walk-on Brendan Sherrer this week.

Sherrer is the only one - so far - to make the team after Washington held a tryout for 8-10 players. Another tryout Rudy Sharar, a junior guard from Bainbridge Island, has been working out with the team, however, coach Lorenzo Romar officially added Sherrer to the roster.

Sherrer, a 6-9, 240-pound sophomore forward out of Archbishop Murphy High in Everett, did not dress for Wednesday's s exhibition win over Central Washington, but he was on the bench in street clothes.

(How do you feel?) "I still can't believe it. It's kind of like a dream come true."

(Did it feel real when you took the team pictures with everyone else?) "Yeah. Everything has happened so fast. I'm still kind of wrapping my head around it."

(Was playing here a dream come true or did you just want to play college ball?) "Yeah just playing basketball in college. Everybody in high school kind of had a dream of going on. But that was kind of after my senior year. I kind of had a decision between basketball or college. I chose college and came to the U-Dub."

(Any offers out of high school?) "Just like junior colleges. I think it was Whitworth and a few others."

(How tough was that decision?) "It wasn't too bad. I came here because I'm thinking about going pre-dental and UW has a really good program. ... So coming to the UW was really high up there for me.

(Were you in the Dawg Pack?) "Yeah. There's actually pictures where we had our chest painted, the Dawg Pack. There's actually a pretty cool picture with me standing in the background like (Jon) Brockman dunking."

(From the Dawg Pack to the bench. That's pretty cool.) "Yeah. It's just ... I'm glad to be on the team."

(Every sit in the Dawg Pack and think you could be out there on the floor?) "I never really thought that maybe one day I could be playing there, but I would kind of imagine being on the team and what it would be like."

(What's your role?) "My job is to make the other players better. I'm a role player. I do what the coach tells me to do."

(What type of a player were you in high school?) "I was more of a defensive player. I wasn't the guy scoring all of the points. I was there for the boards and play defense."

(Were you all-conference?) "No. I actually didn't start playing until my sophomore year and picked it up really quickly."

(Did you have a growth spurt?) "No. I was actually always tall. I was more into baseball. So then, I tried out my sophomore year and made it. And then we went to state my senior year."

(Who will you get tired of banging against in practice?) "Probably MBA (Matthew Bryan-Amaning) or Darnell (Gant) because they're big guys."

(What position did you play in baseball?) "I was a pitcher and first base."

(How was the tryout?) "Well I heard about it and didn't have very much time to prepare. I kind of came into not knowing what we were going to do. We went through a few drills and ran up and down the court in a few scrimmages. And basically they told us afterward that they'd notify us within 24 hours."

(Did you think you had a good showing?) "Yeah I thought I did well. It was kind of hard to judge myself. I was just so nervous having everybody watch."

--- Oregon State coach Craig Robinson is building a juggernaut in Corvallis, Ore. and he's doing in an unconventional manner, luring east coast talent to the Northwest. According to Scout.com, he snagged Devon Collier, a 6-foot-8 power forward out of famed St. Anthony's High. I can't post to it because the report is on their pay site.

Collier joins Chicago point guard Ahmad Starks who committed to the Beavers in August.
