Washington proposes renewing series with Gonzaga
Posted by Percy Allen
***Updated 12:55 p.m.***
A Washington school official confirmed the Huskies proposed a three-year series against Gonzaga at KeyArena.
The schools would evenly split the net revenue from ticket sales and ticket allotment at the 17,072-seat arena.
The game would be officiated by Pac-10 and WCC officials who work commonly work both conferences.
The televison rights would need to be negotiated. The Pac-10 owns the rights of any member school, so the conferences would need to figure out the broadcasting issues.
The series would begin next season in 2011 and run until 2013.. No dates were proposed.
Washington delivered the proposal this week and the UW official said it is being considered by Gonzaga coach Mark Few.
"Now the ball is in their court so to speak," said Richard Kilwien, UW's associate athletic director of athletic communications.
KJR-AM's Dave Mahler was first to report about the proposal.
The schools resumed the series in 1997 and the Zags have dominated. UW is 2-8, winning in '97 and 2005. The teams last played in '06.
