Thursday morning links --- and a video!!!

Wednesday's unveiling of Washington's five new assistant coaches marked what may be the last real football news to come from UW for a little while.

Recruiting is done, and as a few of the coaches said, the plan now is to lock themselves in the film and meeting rooms for a while and acclimate themselves to their new players and begin planning for the beginning of spring football on April 2. Players, meanwhile, are deep into off-season conditioning mode.

So you may not hear a lot from the Huskies for a little while during what is kind of the true grunt-work time of the college football year (the blog may also be a little more quiet than usual going forward, as well, for some of the same reasons, along with the fact that I will have some non-UW assignments over the next month or so).

As for yesterday, Times columnist Jerry Brewer wrote about what fans may be able to expect from a Justin Wilcox defense, while I wrote about some of the decisions a few of the new assistants had to make along the way.

Also, make sure to check out all the quotes and videos passed along yesterday.

Two of the more interesting things I heard in those interviews:

--- Wilcox saying that while he'd like to have UW evolve to more of a 3-4 look, it may not necessarily get there immediately while they assess what the players they currently have do best. As he said on several occasions, they won't try to force a square peg into a round hole. So it's probably best to expect lots of multiple looks and not necessarily a wholesale change in the UW defense;

--- and Kiesau talk about the fact that he gave up play-calling responsibility to come to UW but didn't want to let that "one negative'' deter him from taking what he felt was an overall better opportunity. Not that there was really a question of whether Steve Sarkisian would continue to call plays, but that answered it if there was.

IN OTHER NEWS. ...

--- Former Husky Austin Sylvester has re-signed with Denver, at the moment the only fullback on the Broncos' roster.

--- ESPN.com's Ted Miller lists Chris Polk's 5-TD game against Arizona as one of the best Pac-12 performances of 2011.

Finally, here's a little video I shot yesterday afternoon of what it looks like at Husky Stadium right now, and of where UW will practice in the future:

This player was created in August 2010 to take advantage of smart player technology. It is used in all embedded video on The Seattle Times as well as outside sites..
