A few recruiting-related notes to pass along. ...

--- So far, doesn't sound like any additional firm commitments from the other four players who visited UW this weekend along with fullback fullback Psalm Wooching of Kealakehe High in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, who was reported by several web sites to have committed on Friday. (Here's the blog post on Wooching).

--- ESPN.com's Greg Biggins talked to Lakes High offensive tackle Zach Banner following his visit to USC this weekend, and Banner waxed enthusiastic about it calling it "the most fun for me out of any of the visits.'' But he also said he hadn't committed anywhere and would host in-home visits with each of his three finalists --- UW, USC and Oklahoma --- this week. He also said again this his plan is to make his decision on letter-of-intent signing day on Feb. 1.

--- Biggins also had an update on Randall Goforth, a DB/athlete from Long Beach Poly who was a commit to Arizona State before deciding to reopen things when Dennis Erickson was fired. He visited UW last week and said the Huskies were right there with UCLA and the Sun Devils. He visited ASU this week and told Biggins that "I like this staff better than the old one.'' But he also said all three of his finalists are equal and he's not sure what he will do. UW is recruiting him as a cornerback.

--- There have been lots of questions about UW may do about a kicker next season --- both of the kickers on UW's roster from last season, Erik Folk and walk-on Eric Guttorp, were seniors with no more eligibility. UW coach Steve Sarkisian said in his teleconference with reporters a couple weeks ago that the Huskies would hope to solve that problem in recruiting, though as of yet, UW has not gotten a commitment from a kicker and the recruiting sites do not show the Huskies with any offers out to kickers, though Washington does have a commitment from punter Korey Durkee of Gig Harbor, who also has done a lot of kicking.

Santiago Lopez of Lynden High School, a Seattle Times white chip pick, also said today that he plans to enroll at UW and walk-on.

Lopez, listed at 5-11, 190, helped lead Lynden to the Washington State 2A title this fall, his on-side kick proving critical in the state championship win over Archbishop Murphy.

According to the Bellingham Herald, he made 69-74 PATs this year along with eight field goals while also consistently putting the ball into the back of end zones on kickoffs.

Lopez said he has talked to UW coach Steve Sarkisian about walking on, having already begun the process of getting enrolled.

He said he had gotten a few scholarship offers from smaller schools but that "I always wanted to play for the University of Washington, so that's my goal and always has been.''

As is common with walk-ons, he said he's been told he would have a chance to earn a scholarship down the road.
