Martin to UCLA?
Posted by Bob Condotta
ESPN.com's Greg Biggins is reporting that UW cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin could headed to UCLA and a spot on the new staff of coach Jim Mora. Biggins said Martin said "nothing is official'' and will decide later today.
KJR-AM's Dave Mahler, however, also talked with Martin and Martin told Mahler that he is indeed leaving, and may not coach UW through the bowl game, that his priority would be beginning to recruit for the Bruins.
Martin is a native of the Los Angeles area (he attended Muir High in Pasadena) and worked previously at USC and Mt,. SAC JC in southern California before coming to UW in 2009 to join Steve Sarkisian's staff.
He's regarded as one of UW's better recruiters, one of the assistants who handles the southern California area.
If Martin leaves, he would be the first change to Sarkisian's staff since it was fully assembled prior to 2009 spring ball (there were a couple of changes in the early process, but none since the team hit the field for its first practices).
All of the assistants got new contracts after the 2010 season that last through 2012.
