Another new Husky?
Posted by Bob Condotta
Appears that way as Brandon Huffman of Scout.com is reporting that UW has received a commitment from defensive end/outside linebacker Jeremy Castro of Vista Murrieta High in Murrieta, Calif.
That's the same school as QB Derrick Brown, a 2011 signee of UW. Huffman quoted Castro as saying that Brown played a role in selling him on UW.
The 6-3, 245-pound Castro (though some of the sites list him also at 6-1) is rated as a four-star recruit by Scout.com and the No. 20 overall OLB. And as such, he fits the prototype of a player that UW has been heavily recruiting in recent years, of defensive end/OLB types who can play with their hand down or in stand-up pass-rush situations.
Rivals.com also rates him as a four-star recruit and No. 20 at his position while ESPN.com's Scouts Inc. has him at three stars. RealDawg.com has also reported Castro's commitment.
He had offers from most of the Pac-12 and had said in May he was heavily favoring Oregon. He was also reported to be seriously considering Oklahoma. So on paper, this rates as a fairly significant get for the Huskies.
He is the 16th known commit for the Class of 2012 and 13th since June 2.
Here's a story on Castro from last month that sheds some light on his abilities and another from earlier in the spring.
Here is some video of Castro:
