Does latest Oregon QB commitment impact UW?
Posted by Bob Condotta
Oregon received a commitment today from quarterback Johnny Manziel.
And why should UW fans care about that?
Because any commitments from QBs can start the dominoes falling among other signal-callers, and Manzeil's decision could ultimately help send QB Marcus Mariota of Saint Louis School in Honolulu to UW.
Mariota had earlier committed to Oregon, then in the last week was reported to now be a "soft verbal'' to the Ducks. Now, with Manziel in the fold in Eugene, he could be wide open, and Tony Di Francisco, who follows Oregon recruiting, predicted today that Mariota will now end up at UW.
Here's Mariota's Scout.com profile, showing him with an offer from UW.
The Huskies are also still avidly recruiting Brett Hundley of Chandler, Ariz. Hundley visited UW during spring ball and also reportedly had another visit last week as he appears to be getting closer to a decision.
The Huskies will undoubtedly take at least one QB for the Class of 2011 with only Keith Price and Nick Montana as scholarship players on this year's roster who will have eligibility remaining after 2010. In fact, given having just two scholarship QBs past 2010 UW could take two in this class.
