Nebraska to Big Ten? USC to get one-year bowl ban?

Posted by Bob Condotta

There's so many reports about so many different things out there almost hard to keep them straight. But here are a couple of updates on the two biggest stories of the moment --- expansion and USC:

EXPANSION: Lots of reports that higher ups at Nebraska have decided to make the move to the Big Ten, with an announcement coming by Friday. What that means for a Pac-16 is still uncertain --- Big 12 sure to quickly explore options on how to keep its league together.

Further evidence of a Nebraska move to the Big 12 --- ESPN is reporting that Nebraska AD Tom Osborne has already told athletic department staffers that it will happen.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M.: ESPN is reporting that it is basically a done deal that Nebraska will head to Big Ten. However, it is also reporting that the Big Ten could stay there --- at, uh, 12. So still unclear what that would mean for the Pac-10's expansion plans.

Conventional wisdom is that the Big 12 probably breaks up anyway --- too many hard feelings over all that has transpired, especially with Missouri. And Texas --- which might ideally like to stay put --- probably deciding to get out and take the Pac-10's sure thing offer rather than staying in what could be a dying Big 12.

USC: Here's USA Today's take on the reports that the NCAA report on USC will come as early as tomorrow. The story notes that where last week, a USC spokesman denied that the school had the report in hand, today he simply said he couldn't comment.

And I missed this yesterday, but the web site of the USC student-run TV station reported that an anonymous player said the penalty will be a one-year bowl ban and the loss of "several'' scholarships. For what it's worth, this is the same site that got it right when it said the report wasn't coming last week.

UPDATE 5:30: Scott Wolf is reporting no press conference scheduled yet at USC, but that the report is expected tomorrow. Bryan Fischer of Rivals.com is reporting USC may just issue video statements.

--- Also, here's the report from GoHuskies.com on today's APR news for UW.
