A Pac-10-Big 12 football series in the offing?
Posted by Bob Condotta
During one of our recent live chats, a reader asked if there was any way the Pac-10 and Big 12 --- acknowledged to be searching for ways to do increased business together --- might be interested in a football scheduling agreement similar to the one the conferences have for basketball.
I suggested probably not because football scheduling is so much more complicated, with fewer openings for games.
But apparently the two conferences disagree and are looking into just that very idea (for basketball, the two conferences have an agreement that each school in one conference play one non-conference game each year against a school from other, rotating home courts each season).
Here are the details from DallasNews.com via Rivals.com. As the article details, such an agreement would help make a TV package of the two conferences that much more attractive, guaranteeing all of a quality non-conference game.
UW has often played against Big 12 teams in the non-conference in recent years, and has games against Nebraska this year and in Lincoln in 2011, and a home-and-home with Colorado in 2015 (there) and 2016 (in Seattle).
IN OTHER NEWS. ...
--- Interesting news out of the NCAA that it has decertified a couple of non-traditional courses commonly used to get eligible. The BYU Independent Study seemed particularly popular among West Coast schools.
--- CBSSports.com unveils its annual coaches hot seat rankings and has Steve Sarkisian about as low as possible, saying that he's among those "who can't be touched.'' The Pac-10 coach with the hottest seat? No surprise there --- WSU's Paul Wulff, given the maximum hot seat score.
--- Speaking of non-conference schedules, the ESPN.com Pac-10 blog (barely hanging on with Ted Miller on vacation for a little while) says that Oregon State has the toughest non-conference schedule this season.
--- And once again, don't forget the live chat with UW AD Scott Woodward here today at noon.
All for now.
