UW moving forward with Husky Stadium renovation

For those who've asked what's next with the renovation of Husky Stadium (pictured at right), we have answers in this story for Friday's paper.
As the story details, the Huskies are preparing to move on without public funding, while holding out hope that some could come down the road.
"We're looking at going forth,'' UW athletic director Scott Woodward said tonight.
And that effort includes a significant step that will take place on Friday when UW files an official Request for Proposal asking planners to come up with new renovation plans. The decision to go forward with a new RFP comes after the Husky Stadium Advisory committee met recently in the wake of the latest unsuccessful attempt to get public money.
UW is hopeful that it will get proposals in the $200-250 million, a number that has come down in part due to lower construction costs and bond rates. As the story details, some aspects of the renovation may also be delayed. The UW Board of Regents was briefed on the plans for the RFP today.
UW has set a deadline of July 1 for developers to submit proposals, with another meeting set before the Board of Regents on July 15. If a suitable proposal can be found and approved --- and enough funding secured to get the project off the ground --- Woodward hopes that the renovation can begin after the 2010 season. That would mean UW playing at Qwest Field in 2011 then returning to a renovated Husky Stadium, in 2012. If it all doesn't come together quite as quickly, then all of those time frames will be pushed back a year, meaning construction beginning after 2011, playing at Qwest in 2012 and then returning to a renovated Husky Stadium in 2013.
The story details how UW hopes to fund the renovation in the face of a lack of public money. But Woodward said the school will continue to explore public funding options, saying that UW will "just need a little help from everyone.''
