Had to finish up my story for the paper and head home, so sorry to be late getting a few more things up on the spring game.

Anyway, here's my story on the game, focusing a bit on the ending.

As for a few other notes:

--- Those questioning the attendance figure, it came straight from the school.

--- As the story notes, UW coach Steve Sarkisian overuled the called at the end to force Nick Montana to score one more time. As he said later, that's kind of how every practice ends, with it all coming down to one play to decide a winner. "All of our practices kind of end a little controversially,'' he said with a laugh. "You've got to make it exciting.''

--- That included having walk-on Eric Guttorp handle the final PAT. Sarkisian said that wasn't because Erik Folk had missed a previous attempt, capping off an inconsistent spring, but just to give Guttorp a chance --- he hadn't had a single live attempt all spring. "I thought it sent a good message to our football team that you never know when your number is going to be called. Stay prepared. And he stepped in and nailed it.'' He got a little ride on the shoulders of teammates as a reward.

--- Anthony Boyles said he's really feeling comfortable with his switch to cornerback, and was excited to score a TD on an interception. "It was a great time,'' he said. "The last time I've been in the end zone was in high school, so I'm happy to go in the end zone.''

--- Demitrius Bronson was the offensive star with 72 yards on 11 carries and a long of 24. That capped off a somewhat up-and-down spring in which he was tried at fullback for a while after having trouble hanging onto the ball. Said Sarkisian: "I thought this was probably his best day of the spring. He settled and ran the football and I think he got over worrying about it if he was going to hold onto it. He was going to hold onto it. So now he can go in and run the ball, and I thought he ran physical. I think it was huge for him, in all honesty it was big for him. He can go into the summer knowing he's a capable player at this level and good things are still ahead of him.''

--- Bronson seemed to take his game in stride, saying he wasn't trying to make a statement but just wanted to "come out, run hard and have fun and see where it takes you.'' Asked what position he thinks he is now, he said "I have no clue. Just wherever they put me I'm going to go and play hard.''

--- Sarkisian also said that he thought Johri Fogerson "had a nice day,'' rushing for 50 yards on eight carries with a long of 14.

--- As for the first offense as operated by Jake Locker, who was 3-7 for 15 yards, Sarkisian said: "It was a little sloppy here and there. Might have missed a couple of plays Jake probably would like to have back. But he's healthy and we're healthy as a team, so I'll take it.'' Locker's first two series were three-and-out, the second one moved a little without scoring, and the fourth one went for a TD, and then he was taken out.

--- Sarkisian liked the new format, saying "I thought the interactive stuff kept the crowd involved, kept them into it. I thought all in all it went well.''

--- True freshman LB Victor Burnett led all tackles with eight, three solo, one for a loss. He also was credited with a forced fumble on the one by Cole Sager that was recovered by Boyles and rerturned 25 yards.

--- There were no significant injuries and UW made it through the spring without anything that would impact anyone heading into the fall.

--- I also talked a little bit afterward with Keith Price and Cameron Elisara and will have some of that in the next day or so.
