Pulu pleads guilty to second-degree assualt
Posted by Bob Condotta
Andru Pulu pled guilty as charged to felony second-degree assualt this morning in King County Court, a county court spokesman said this afternoon.
He will be sentenced on May 7 in King County Court by judge Michael Heavey. The sentence range, according to a court spokesman, is 3-9 months.
Pulu, pictured to the right, played in 11 games as a true freshman for the Washington Huskies last season as a backup defensive end and on special teams.
He was expected to contend for a starting job this season before being arrested in connection with an assault that happened at an off-campus party on March 7 (here are the details on the arrest).
Pulu was indefinitely suspended from the Huskies by UW coach Steve Sarkisian on March 9. Sarkisian has since said only that Pulu's future with the Huskies wouldn't be determined until there was finality to his legal situation. UW is off of spring practice today so unknown if there will be any further comment from the school.
Pulu is a graduate of Federal Way High School.
Pulu's suspension combined with injuries to Kalani Aldrich (knee) and Everrette Thompson (Achilles) to make the Huskies especially thin at defensive end this spring. Both Thompson and Aldrich have been sidelined all spring.
However, Thompson and Aldrich are expected to recover fully for the season. UW has also experimented by moving defensive tackle Cameron Elisara to defensive end at times this spring and he is expected to be used there situationally this fall.
