Here's the Jake Locker postcard UW has mailed out
Posted by Bob Condotta
As the first part of its campaign to publicize quarterback Jake Locker, the Huskies sent out a postcard to all members of the Football Writers Association of America this week.
The front features a full-color picture of Locker (pictured top to the right). The back (pictured lower to the right) features his stats and other biographical information.
You'll note that nowhere on the card is the word "Heisman.'' This isn't necessarily the beginning of an official Heisman campaign, just some info to keep, or get, Locker on the minds of many of those who do vote for that award, and other awards or All-American teams. The card does refer to Locker as an "All-American Candidate.''
The front features five quotes, including the one from Mel Kiper Jr., a few weeks ago that "if he's not the number one pick (in 2011), it's an upset.''
It also features quotes from Seahawks coach Pete Carroll ("Ridiculous talent"); Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith ("when he stiff-armed a few people, it wasn't like he just stuck his arm out. He was delivering the blow.''); Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh ("If I didn't have to coach against him, I'd be a lot bigger fan"); and oh the irony, Mike Bellotti ("The most difficult weapon to defend.'').
As noted here earlier, the school will also launch a web site on Locker's behalf in the next few months. Overall, however, any Heisman campaign is expected to be fairly understated --- no banners in Times Square.
