Clearing out the notebook from Saturday's scrimmage, including a few thoughts from linebacker Mason Foster, seen in the picture at right last year celebrating a win with coach Steve Sarkisian.

--- Foster had one of the big hits of the day when he nailed true freshman RB Deontae Cooper late in the scrimmage.

He said he likes playing again at weakside linebacker, the position he played in 2008 before moving to strongside LB last season. Playing WLB means Foster typically lines up more behind the line instead of on it, and usually results in more tackles.

"It's great to be back running sideline to sideline, filling gaps and everything,'' he said. "It's a different look, but I love to play Will (weakside linebacker). l feel like it's more natural for me, so I just want to make as many plays as can for the team.''

He also said he was impressed with the two freshmen RBs.

"They are real athletic, real aggressive, they look great, getting better each and every day,'' he said. "I like the way they are playing. Their running style is real tough.''

--- Receiver Devin Aguilar had a 29-yard TD catch from Jake Locker on the first series of the scrimmage and said an offense that returns almost everyone from last year is ahead of last spring in just about every way.

"Everybody knows what they have to do as far as executing and knowing their role on the field and knowing the expectations of the coaches,'' he said.

He also said he likes working with backup QB candidates Keith Price and Nick Montana.

"They are coming along real fast,'' he said. "They are knowing their checks and they seem to get in the flow.''

As for how Montana throws, Aguilar said: "He throws a nice spiral. It's pretty clean. I like it.''

--- As noted Sunday, Price said he wasn't that happy with his play Saturday.

"I think I could have done a lot better,'' he said. "I'm kind of disappointed with myself right now because there are some throws I should have made that I didn't make. It just wasn't coming off my hand right today. I just should have thrown better. ... It's just me not getting my feet under me. My arm is fine. I just have to make those throws make my reads quicker and just do a better job at that.''

Price, however, said he's not feeling any pressure due to the competition with Montana.

"I just take it one day at a time,'' he said. "I'm not even thinking about that. I'm just worried about competing on the field and doing what I have to do in order to get that second spot.''

--- Locker also agreed that the offense is ahead of last time, which only makes sense given that a year ago it was a new coach putting in a new system.

"To come in and do as well as he did today and have an understanding of the offense to this point I thought was very impressive,'' he said.

As for his general assessment of the scrimmage, he said: "I thought we did pretty well. We were able to move the ball. We had some penalties that kind of set us back but overall we did some good things. There are some things we need to improve on, but we were able to get open downfield and create some explosive runs and get into the secondary, so for a first one I thought it went well.''

As for the two freshman RBs, Locker said: "I thought they ran great today, really good in the open field, able to make guys miss and pick up extra yards on free hitters, and that's what this league is all about. So it was fun to watch them run around and hopefully they are able to keep progressing and getting better.''

As for seeing new Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on the sideline, he said: "I said Hi to him afterwards. It was nice to see him out there supporting us and obviously he's supporting Sark. They are busy, they've got stuff going on, but for him to take time out of his day to come here and check it out means a lot to everybody here.''

--- As noted on Saturday, Locker played just two series in the scrimmage by design, Sarkisian said.

"Jake was going to have two series regardless of what happened,'' he said. "It's like NFL pre-season football Peyton Manning gets his two series and then he's done, that's kind of how we approached it today. Jake was getting two series and then we wanted to get enough of these two young guys on film to see where they are at.''

As for a couple of injured players who sat out, Sarkisian said WR Cody Bruns should be back on Tuesday but that "any time there is a head injury we take it very seriously not going to rush it back.''

And as for DE De'Shon Matthews, out at the moment with an Achilles injury, Sarkisian said: "Achilles are a touchy deal and his is sore, so I'd rather have him sit now and be able to play vs. BYU then play until that thing gets worse and we don't have him later. So we're just trying to take it slowly.''
