Woodward confident Sarkisian not going anywhere

While UW coach Steve Sarkisian said Friday that Washington is his "dream job'' and he has no intention of leaving, the LA Times wrote today that he can't be ruled completely out of the USC picture now that leading candidate Mike Riley has agreed to an extension at Oregon State.
So I thought I'd call on Sarkisian's boss at UW, athletic director Scott Woodward, and see if there was any reason for Husky fans to worry about Sarkisian returning to USC.
Woodward said that while he can't completely dismiss the possibility that USC might try to talk to Sarkisian --- he said they haven't yet --- he's confident his coach isn't going anywhere.
"These things are always interesting,'' Woodward said today. "Could it fall to Sark? Absolutely. But in my conversation with coach Sarkisian, he is very happy and very comfortable here. He wants to build his own football program here and his own team here, and like he told you guys, it's his dream job. He has told me that time and time again, and we have talked multiple times over the weekend and I spent the morning with him talking recruiting and staff retention and things like that.''
Riley spurned USC's overture in part after Oregon State ponied up a three-year extension. Woodward said he has no plans to extend or enhance Sarkisian's contract because it is so new --- he just completed year one of a five-year deal. However, he said that if need be "you are always prepared to counter anything. But I think coach Sarkisian is happy.'' In other words, he doesn't think there will be a need to do anything.
In fact, he said the bigger worry is "more on our staff not getting poached by (new Seahawks) coach (Pete) Carroll.''
The two UW assistants who would most likely be targets are defensive coordinator Nick Holt, who was USC's defensive coordinator under Carroll from 2006-08, and cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin, a graduate assistant for two years under Carroll.
But it is expected that Carroll will hire DeWayne Walker as his DC for the Seahawks, which would mean he wouldn't have a comparable position for Holt.
But Woodward said so far, nothing has happened and UW's staff remains intact.
