With a little free time yesterday, I was cleaning my home office when I happened upon a Christmas wish list penned by one of the most ardent Husky fans I know. "Jon,'' as I'll call him so he can maintain his much desired-anonymity, must have dropped it on his last visit here --- his hands were still trembling in excitement over what he'd seen in the season finale against Cal.

It was dated Dec. 12 as it looked like "Jon'' wanted to get an early start on things --- unlike almost everybody else in the state of Washington, who all appeared to be at the same mall I was yesterday. Most, in fact, were in the same line as I was at Macy's, all harried-looking men carrying the same weeks-old coupons hoping to find something, anything, to get through it all painlessly.

Anyway, I found "Jon's'' list kind of interesting, so I thought I'd pass it along, adding a few of my own comments along the way.

--- One more year of Jake Locker. COMMENT: Well, "Jon" and all other UW fans got their wish here, and probably shouldn't ask for much more this Holiday season. Throw Locker into the mix and UW may have the best recruiting class in the nation this year. And the more you watch the Pac-10 stagger through the bowl season, no reason to think a Locker-led UW team can't really win 8-9 games next season.

--- One more year for E.J. Savannah. COMMENT: Nothing new on this one yet, a UW spokesman said earlier this week. When there is news, they plan to let us all know. Savannah's case doesn't seem to fit the usual profile for getting a sixth year --- which is missing two entire seasons, usually consecutively, due to injury. But UW coach Steve Sarkisian seemed to indicate he thought UW had a good case to present. And we know what happened the last time Sarkisian felt optimistic about someone returning to the team.

--- A renovation of Husky Stadium. COMMENT: This one feels kind of like the little girl who asks Santa Claus for world peace. Oh okay, maybe it's not quite that daunting a task, but getting money out of the Legislature in this environment seems as unlikely as Tiger Woods winning "Husband of the Year'' honors. "Jon'' and everyone else had probably better hope Scott Woodward has a good "Plan B'' in mind. (And maybe one that doesn't involve a pitching wedge).

--- No more games on FCS. COMMENT: Reality is that this is one the Huskies control. Play better, and UW games will get more consistently favorable time slots and networks (FCS is essentially the rookie league affiliate of FSN). And truth is, bad TV is better than no TV (Three's Company is proof of that). Besides, UW's one FCS game this year delivered one of the most unintentionally memorable moments of the college football broadcast season.

--- Three more years just like this one for Chris Polk. COMMENT: No doubt one of the real revelations of this season was the play of Polk, a redshirt freshman who had the seventh-best single-season total in UW history with 1,113 yards --- and established himself as maybe Washington's best running back since Corey Dillon. Three more of those and he'll be the school's all-time leading rusher. Of course, one or two more like those and he may also have other options to consider.

--- A 25-0, 35-0, 45-0, 55-0, 65-0 Ohio State win over Oregon. COMMENT: Looks like "Jon'' had a little indecision here. But given the way the Pac-10 has started its bowl season, anything seems possible.

--- Hugh Millen on the radio 24 hours a day. COMMENT: Indeed, "Jon'' is one of those UW fans aware of how lucky he is to have an ex-player like Millen around to break it down as honestly and intelligently as he does every week during the football season. I obviously go to a lot of other Pac-10 cities and hear the commentary of ex-players there, which is usually either so homerish that whatever they say lacks any credibility, or is pretty much just "don't turn the ball over'' type analysis that even a sportswriter could deliver. The downside is that 24 hours of Millen, however, might also come with 24 hours of Dave Mahler (just kidding there, Softy).

--- A tape of Nick Holt mic'd up for an entire game. COMMENT: Of course, playing this publicly would probably break every FCC law in the rule book. Even Howard Stern might be taken aback a little bit listening to that tape. But it sure would be entertaining.

--- No more QB sneaks on fourth-and-one at the goal line. COMMENT: It appears "Jon'' was letting his frustration over losing to another sorry Notre Dame team get to him here. I'm pretty sure if UW had tried, say, a play-action pass on one of those and failed that everyone would be mad that Sark just didn't call for Locker, obviously one of the best running QBs around, to just power it on in there from a few feet away. But it will undoubtedly be one of the more interesting moments of next season to see what Sark calls should the same scenario arise in 2010.

--- A lifetime contract extension for Paul Wulff. COMMENT: Well, "Jon'' was just getting a bit too greedy now. But unquestionably, this appears UW's best chance in a decade to really again distance themselves from the Cougars as the best team in the state.

--- The ability of FSN to find some other 2009 UW football game to replay than the one at Arizona State. COMMENT: Agreed that they sure seem to show that one a lot. It's on right now as I type this (fittingly, on the dreaded FCS). Maybe Pete Carroll is supplying the play list.

--- No more links to Nick Daschel and Jim Moore on the Seattle Times Husky football blog. COMMENT: Nice to see my friend "Jon'' reads the blog from time to time. And he shares a sentiment I get often. But sorry, this is a free-speech zone and I like and respect the work of those two, so when they write something about UW football, I'm going to keep passing it along. I think the world would be pretty boring if we all thought alike (except, of course, when it comes to the music of Air Supply, in which case unanimity of thought that that was the worst musical group ever is much desired). Besides, Moore's one of the few persons I've seen so far correctly call the Pac-10 bowl beatdown of the first two games.

And with that, "Jon's'' list was done.
