Holt a candidate at UNLV?
Posted by Bob Condotta
Is UW defensive coordinator Nick Holt a candidate to become the new head coach at UNLV?
Holt is one of about 20 names listed in this story in today's Las Vegas Review-Journal. This story also looks at the candidates and mentions Holt.
Holt has ties to UNLV, coaching there for three seasons from 1987-89 at the beginning of his career, the first as a graduate assistant and then two years as defensive line coach.
Official word from UW today is that UNLV has not asked for permission to talk to Holt, but it's really early in the process.
The RJ story mentions that a new coach might make about $700,000 a year. That's essentially what Holt makes at UW, but he would probably take the same amount of money to be a head coach again. Holt has said what any assistant would say, that he'd like to be a head coach again if the right opportunity presents itself. Holt was a head coach for two years at Idaho --- the stories indicate UNLV wants someone with head coaching experience. Holt's 5-18 record those two seasons, however, may not help him there.
Holt is represented by former NFL player Trace Armstrong, who now works as an agent for CAA.
Also mentioned on those lists is former UW coach Tyrone Willingham.
UNLV's job became open this week when the school fired Mike Sanford.
