Another new Husky?

Posted by Bob Condotta

Sounds like it as all three of the major UW recruiting web sites are reporting that linebacker Victor Burnett of Culver City, Calif., has committed to the Huskies.

Burnett is a good get for the Huskies as he also took trips to Oklahoma and Arizona, indicative of the kind of recruiting attention he was getting.

He's listed at 6-foot, 225 pounds and rated as the No. 25 middle linebacker prospect in the country by Scout.com.

That's obviously a position of immediate need next season for UW with Donald Butler graduating. True freshman Tim Tucker has drawn plaudits from coaches for his play there the last few weeks, but obviously need more than one MLB going forward.

Burnett was one of six players that visited for the LSU game Sept. 5. UW has now gotten two commitments from players who visited that weekend, the other being running back Deontae Cooper. Three others have committed elsewhere. The one uncommitted player left from that group is cornerback Demetrirus Wright of Corona, Calif., who is thought to still be high on UW. If the Huskies were to get Wright and get half the players who visited that weekend, that would have to go down as a pretty successful gamble to bring all those guys in for that game.

I talked to Burnett the day after his visit and he said then he was impressed by the competitiveness the Huskies showed that night. He also apparently likes the idea of being able to come in and compete for immediate playing time.

He is the 23rd known commit for UW's Class of 2010, and the Huskies may take five or so more in what will be the first full recruiting class for coach Steve Sarkisian. The limit is technically 25, but it's expected UW may sign a few more than that and figure the numbers will work out later with some guys enrolling early and counting against the 2009 class, etc.
