Thursday a.m. links --- time for lots of picks
Posted by Bob Condotta
The end of the week means it's prediction time, so a few of those, as well as the usual news and notes. ...
--- ESPN's Ted Miller sees a pretty easy day for the Beavers, picking OSU 41-24. He also has his weekly "What to Watch'' feature, writing that Jake Locker is due for another big performance and that Sean Canfield could be in for a big one against the Huskies. Miller also has this preview of the game, noting UW has lost its last 11 games against teams from the state of Oregon --- ouch.
--- Nick Daschel includes Mason Foster and Donald Butler on his list of possible Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honorees.
--- Vince Grippi of the Spokesman-Review also picks the Beavers.
--- The Oregonian notes that a big key for OSU's second-half surge has been the maturation of its young offensive line --- Sean Canfield was not sacked last week against Cal. That may be key No. 1 for UW this week is figuring out a way to get some pressure on Canfield while still accounting for the Rodgers brothers.
--- A few OSU notes including an injury update and that there are 700 tickets left for the game. Also an interesting story on the ability of OSU's WRs to block downfield.
--- Jon Wilner has UW eighth in his Pac-10 rankings this week, ahead of Arizona State.
--- Greg Biggins has a couple updates on recruits who are or had been considering UW. One, RB Jordon James, is no longer considering UW and will pick either UCLA, Cal or Arizona soon. He was one of six players who took their visit to UW the weekend of the LSU game. So far, one has chosen UW --- RB Deontae Cooper. Three others won't end up at UW, two already committing elsewhere and James, who has ruled out the Huskies. Two others are still considering UW --- LB Victor Burnett and cornerback Demetrius Wright.
Also, a programming note that I'll have a live chat either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. And if some of you want to weigh in on which you'd prefer, feel free. I usually do one Wednesday or Thursday around noon but couldn't yesterday to fulfill another work obligation and today we have a mandatory staff meeting I have to attend.
